Der Kontext in dem Tweet klingt nicht nach „Redox ist gut/besser als Linux“
sondern nach
„der Ansatz von Redox gefällt mir besser, als der von Linux“.
Analog könnte ich sagen, dass ich die Idee von Wasserstoffmotoren für Privatautos besser finde, als Benzin-,
was aber nicht heißt, dass ich aktuell Wasserstoffmotoren für Privatautos empfehlen würde.
Ich denke, es ist wichtig zu erwähnen, dass RedoxOS noch in der Alpha-Phase ist und IIRC erst vor kurzer Zeit überhaupt erst zum ersten Mal auf realer (Desktop-)Hardware lief (sonst nur in der VM). Das Projekt hat als privates Projekt von Jeremy Soller begonnen, der auch der Hauptentwickler der Cosmic IDE bei System76 ist.
Ich denke nicht, dass es man es schon als Alternative zu Linux oder BSDs nutzen kann (auch wennich große Hoffnung darin setze, dass das bald der Fall sein wird).
Wo kann man die Vorteile von so einem OS sehen? Ist es Foss? Wäre es sicherer (out of the Box) als Linux? Vergleichbar mit Mac OS? Könnte man es, wie Linux, auf jedem PC installieren? Gäbe es Programme für das OS?

Redox OS hat mehrere Sicherheitsvorteile gegenüber Linux:

- Treiber im Userspace statt im Kernel
- Kleine Angriffsfläche

Aber es braucht noch viel Arbeit um es als vollwertiges Desktop/Mobil-OS zu verwenden.
Ich finde auch, dass das alles toll klingt,
ändert aber nichts daran, wie der Tweet gemeint ist.
Und ebensowenig wie ich aktuell mein potenzielles Wasserstoffauto bequem nutzen kann,
könnte ich aktuell Linux durch Redox ersetzen.

Current status
Redox is in alpha development phase, thus we are still implementing new features and fixing bugs.
Because of this it’s not ready for daily usage yet. Feel free to test the system until its maturity and don’t store your sensitive data without a proper backup.

Desktop
The development of Redox for the desktop is well underway. Although support for accelerated graphics is limited at this time, Redox does include a graphical user interface, and support on Rust-written GUI libraries like winit, Iced and Slint.
A demo version of Redox is available with several games and programs to try. However, the most important objective for desktop is to host the development of Redox. We are working through issues with some of our build tools, and other developer tools such as editors have not been tested under daily use, but we continue to make this a priority.
Due to a fairly limited list of currently supported hardware, once self-hosted development is available the development can be done inside of Redox with more quick testing. We are adding more hardware compatibility as quickly as we can, and we hope to be able to support the development on a wide array of desktops and notebooks in the near future.
Wo ist das ein Vorteil?
Also wo ist im Userspace ein geringerer Angriffsvektor, um Treiber zu manipulieren? Da scheint er mir höher.
Oder geht es darum, dass (proprietäre) Fremdtreiber nicht in den Kernel müssen? Stimmt das wäre ein Vorteil.
Wow! Ich muss schon sagen: dafür, dass die SW selbst noch im Alpha-Stadium ist, ist die gesamte Dokumentation ziemlich gut! Selbst, wenn man dem Projekt (und eben der SW) noch einige Zeit geben muss, um das System regulär nutzen zu können: es ist interessant und macht Spaß, in der Doku zu schmökern.
